In Belgium, any consumer who has a dispute with a company based in Belgium can contact a qualified body to try to resolve the dispute amicably.
Who can help me in the event of a dispute?
Specialized services exist in the most important economic sectors. These are often mediators, but can also be a conciliation board, for example. Depending on the service you turn to, different rules may apply. Although there are basic rules to which everyone must adhere:
Each service is independent and impartial
Each service is transparent and accessible
Each service prepares an annual report
Each case is processed within 90 days.
There are currently 13 qualified bodies in Belgium. Although recourse to the Consumer Mediation Service is always free of charge, other qualified bodies to which we refer may charge a fee. You cannot choose where you submit a case. Each body is competent in its own sector.
If we receive a file that falls within the remit of another service, we will transfer it to them and inform you accordingly.
